Dog Days

Always assumed August was the home of “the dog days of summer.” Turns out they fall mostly in July, and have nothing to do with actual dogs, just ancient Romans and stars and such. Maybe it was football two-a-days way back when that made it seem like the phrase belonged to August, and that it had everything to do with working hard and coming through when the heat is on. That’s more our style.

Top dogs this month include a polymer system that actually reduced polymer usage by over 25%. Next we bark about the latest and greatest in chemical induction technology and mixing efficiency. Then we chew on three offerings from the unrivaled experts in inflated laser welded heat transfer products.

Let’s fetch this Chatter …

Manufacturer of the Month

In case you haven’t heard, UGSI Solutions has changed its name to CLEANWATER1.  This new name better reflects their comprehensive offerings in the water and wastewater industry while maintaining the same great products you know and trust. Cleanwater1, Inc., offers a wide range of innovative products including  Polyblend® and Dynablend™ Polymer Feed Systems.

Cleanwater1 systems are making a difference throughout the country. Just look at one Water District that reduced polymer usage by over 25% with the Polyblend® DP 800 Dry Polymer System:

The City of Dixon goes through roughly 1.6 billion gallons of water annually. In order to provide water to nearly 4,300 households and businesses, the City of Dixon upgraded to a 4.5 MGD wastewater treatment plant.

Much like most other wastewater treatment plants, Dixon’s wastewater treatment plant uses polymer to aid in the dewatering of biosolids. Unfortunately, Dixon was running into some issues with their current system that was ratcheting up their costs. The plant staff at Dixon began searching for an economical alternative that would not jeopardize quality or efficiency.

The introduction of the Polyblend® DP 800 Dry Polymer System proved to be an excellent choice for the City of Dixon. It reduced overall operational, maintenance and polymer costs. The City reduced polymer consumption by 25%. The Polyblend® DP 800 has been in use for over a decade. The City of Dixon couldn’t be happier with its performance.

  • Reduction In Polymer Consumption by over 25%.
  • The Polyblend® system improved polymer performance in terms of sludge dryness, solids capture, water clarity, drainage and overall retention.
  • The introduction of this new system lead to significant cost savings, which was one of the key issues plaguing the plant prior to the Polyblend® installation.
  • The Polyblend® DP 800 reduced polymer consumption by through proper energy, impeller size and recirculation. This also prevented agglomerations and minimized polymer facture.
  • The new system required far less maintenance further reducing operating costs.

The Cutting Edge

THE MASTRRR COMPANY is a leading manufacturer of high-performance mixing solutions for the municipal water and wastewater industry.

Introducing the Series 32PAA, a cutting-edge advancement in chemical induction technology tailored specifically for enhancing the effectiveness of peracetic acid (PAA) in the disinfection processes.

By harnessing the principles of hydrodynamic cavitation, this mixer not only boosts the disinfection potency of PAA but also contributes to the breakdown of floc materials and enhances the susceptibility of microorganisms to the disinfectant. Its unique 360-degree unobstructed discharge pattern further enhances mixing efficiency, eliminating short-circuiting issues often encountered in wide channel setups

The GAS MASTRRR Series 32 and Series 32PT units are optimized to induct and flash mix gas and or liquid chemicals with superior velocity gradient mixing intensity into open channels, basins, or tanks. Applications include coagulant flash mixing, de-chlorination, and disinfection. Both mixers can be configured for single or dual chemical feed from a single unit. Benefits include:

  • 20% – 40% reduction in chemical usage possible over conventional ejector/diffuser method.
  • Eliminate dead zones and incomplete chemical dispersion.
  • Eliminates the need for a potable water supply, ejector, booster pump, diffuser, and mechanical mixer.

Top Three

OMEGA THERMO PRODUCTS is both the original developer of laser welded heat transfer plates and the largest supplier of inflated heat transfer plates. Since 1989, Omega Thermo Products has designed, manufactured and sold heat exchanger technology and process systems for many different industries worldwide.

Heat Recovery Bank
Omega’s Heat Recovery Banks capture heat that is exhausted or vented during plant process applications and provide energy savings by using the recovered heat in multiple preheating applications. Heat Recovery Banks have a high return on investment, typically have a lifespan of 20+ years, can reduce your tax burden through relief, credits, incentives and deductions and projects may be eligible for state or federal energy efficiency grants. They are easy to install, easy to clean, reduce operating costs of natural gas and reduce vapor emissions. A few exhaust vapor energy recovery applications are fry cookers, rendering cookers, brew kettles and dryers.

Fluidized Bed Driers
Fluidized bed drying is an efficient method to remove residual moisture from bulk solid materials (examples: granules, powders, grains, beans and crystalline). When it comes to thermal efficiency, the heating panels submerged into the fluidized bulk solid layer make the design unique because of its highly effective method of transferring the heat from the panels to the bulk solid through the fluidizing gas.

Drum Warmer
Omega’s Drum Warmers are clamped onto standard size metal drums to provide heating or cooling of the product inside. Heating or cooling is achieved by utilizing steam, hot oil, hot water, glycol mix and cooling water in the drum warmer. Drum Warmers are manufactured and formed using Omega’s laser welded dimple plates. Omega’s drum warmers are easy to install and are designed to quickly allow for change out from one drum to another. For mobility, Omega offers drum warmers integrated into a horizontal drum cradle.
