From clear blue to “gloom” it often seems as though the month of June gets defined by looking up at the sky. We also realize that when looking up at a June sky, things are not always going to be looking up. It’s ever-changing. The same, of course, is true of facilities and systems. That’s why it is good to know the Charles P. Crowley Company is there for you with the very best engineered equipment and solutions, not only when problems rain down on you, but to help you maintain or even improve upon the status-quo when everything is running smooth, and in fact, looking up.
June’s Chatter begins up above the wet well, making the case for change and switching from submersible pumps. Next up is a whirlwind tour of the latest in chemical induction technology and mixing efficiency, followed by a look at how one metering gear pump sets the standard for precision in challenging applications.
All clear for this Chatter …
Manufacturer of the Month
Wastewater Pump Station innovator SMITH & LOVELESS pioneered package pump stations and non-solids centrifugal pump technology, and continues that spirit today with sustainable, above-ground lift station models that offer the very best in service life longevity, operator safety, and low life-cycle O&M costs.
Smith & Loveless above-ground EVERLAST® Wet Well Mounted Pump Stations arrive pre-assembled and factory-tested with all equipment installed on a common base and a quick-access enclosure, allowing quick and easy installation on the wet well after basic suction pipe and electrical connections are completed. Here are three reasons why many are switching from submersible pumps to go above the wet well:
Industry most operator-safe pump station offers ease of maintenance
EVERLAST™ Pump Stations offer the industry’s most operator safe and easiest pump station to maintain. Because everything is above the wet well, inspection of the complete pump station can be safely accomplished in mere seconds, eliminating all of the confined space hassles and costs associated with pulling sewage-coated submersible pumps from the wet well and accessing confined space valve vaults. Routine tasks like pulling a pump to change a seal or impeller can be completed in minutes by a single operator without the use of outside contractors.
Long lasting S&L life translates to tremendous value
Proprietary S&L STAR ONE™ Non-Clog Pumps feature exclusive oversized stainless-steel pump shafts, oversized bearings, and bronze seal housings, yielding the industry’s longest pump service life and high efficiencies for solids-handling pumps. The larger shaft diameter provides increased rigidity, while its stainless-steel composition eliminates corrosion that leads to shaft deflection and eventual pump failure. With fewer parts and documented lower O&M costs when compared to submersibles, EVERLAST™ brings real value.
Innovative Pump Technology that Eliminates Clogging from Flushables
S&L Non-Clog Pumps are designed to meet the 10 States Standard for passing three-inch (3”) solids. Optional clog-busting equipment (like the proven X-PELLER™ mono-port impeller and RAPIDJACK™ quick-clean check valve) are highly proven solutions to today’s consumer flushables. Say goodbye to problem flushables!
The Cutting Edge
THE MASTRRR COMPANY is a leading manufacturer of high-performance mixing solutions for the municipal water and wastewater industry.
Introducing the Series 32PAA, a cutting-edge advancement in chemical induction technology tailored specifically for enhancing the effectiveness of peracetic acid (PAA) in the disinfection processes.
By harnessing the principles of hydrodynamic cavitation, this mixer not only boosts the disinfection potency of PAA but also contributes to the breakdown of floc materials and enhances the susceptibility of microorganisms to the disinfectant. Its unique 360-degree unobstructed discharge pattern further enhances mixing efficiency, eliminating short-circuiting issues often encountered in wide channel setups.
The GAS MASTRRR Series 32 and Series 32PT units are optimized to induct and flash mix gas and or liquid chemicals with superior velocity gradient mixing intensity into open channels, basins, or tanks. Applications include coagulant flash mixing, de-chlorination, and disinfection. Both mixers can be configured for single or dual chemical feed from a single unit. Benefits include:
- 20% – 40% reduction in chemical usage possible over conventional ejector/diffuser method.
- Eliminate dead zones and incomplete chemical dispersion.
- Eliminates the need for a potable water supply, ejector, booster pump, diffuser, and mechanical mixer.
Top Three
ZENITH PUMPS, a brand of CIRCOR International, has provided pulsation-free‚ metering gear pumps and systems to meet critical process needs across a wide range of markets and applications since 1920. Precision gear pumps are an integral part of many manufacturing processes requiring metering, mixing, dispensing, coating, and extruding, where accuracy and uniformity of flow are critical.
The Zenith 9000 Series metering gear pump is the industry standard for true precision metering for challenging applications in a wide variety of industrial processes.
The design utilizes high AGMA standard external spur gears enclosed within a close tolerance housing assembly. This provides you the precise volume of fluid dispensed per shaft revolution.
The housing is constructed from a precision ground and lapped three-plate assembly. This assembly is aligned with dowels to allow close control of operating clearances. This construction method in combination with several proprietary internal features is what ensures precise, pulseless and reliable flow under varying process conditions.
HIGH ACCURACY – Stable, repeatable flows are assured under varying conditions of temperature, viscosity and pressure.
UNIFORM FLOW – Unique design offers virtually pulseless flow without valves or flexible elements that add complexities, increase cost and hinder performance.
CONSISTENT PRECISION – Unparalleled mechanical precision, combined with closed-loop accuracy, ensures exact volume per revolution without expensive flow meters.
With high metering accuracy, pulse-free flow, and long wear life across a wide range of fluid and pressure conditions, the Zenith Pumps brand is synonymous with high performance and reliability.

Ann Hipolito – Project Manager
Ann’s primary responsibilities for Charles P. Crowley Company (CPC) include project management and handling any post-shipment issues that arise after a system order has been filled. She manages specific project details, including submittal production, purchasing, release of materials with submittal approvals, equipment delivery coordination, and creation of O&M Manuals.
In her role, Ann also ensures clear communication with CPC Systems Inc. to coordinate final start-up and training days on project completions. She is also responsible for maintaining stock levels in the warehouse, ordering office supplies, backing up the parts desk, and providing support for shipping and receiving duties, as well as assisting with various other clerical needs as required.
Ann started with CPC in 2000 at the front desk, moved into selling parts and units, and then quickly transitioned into project management and the accounts payable/accounts receivable department until 2020. She then moved over to CPC Systems Inc. to help build up the service contract business. In 2024, she returned to CPC’s business side to assist with project management and overall office staff support. Her past employment includes a background in mortgage and retail management.
Fun Fact: Ann has nine grandkids that she adores and enjoys spending time with. Ann has a funny bone for Dad jokes. Her new favorite appetizer dish is salt & pepper chicken wings.
